Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting at the CM House to review progress on major road infrastructure schemes under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) and outline priorities for the upcoming development cycle.
Officials briefed the meeting that five key road projects, with a combined cost exceeding PKR 140.9 billion, are currently underway under a cost-sharing arrangement between the federal and provincial governments. These include the extension of the Sindh Coastal Highway, improvement of the Rohri–Guddu Barrage road, dualisation of the Tando Allahyar–Tando Adam road, dualisation of the Mehran Highway (Nawabshah–Ranipur), and the Sanghar–Rohri (N-5) road upgrade.
The meeting was informed that several projects have made steady physical progress, while others are at tendering or early execution stages. So far, PKR 17.94 billion has been released during the current financial year, with overall spending gradually increasing.

The chief minister directed relevant departments to expedite work and remove bottlenecks affecting project timelines. He specifically called for the timely relocation of utility infrastructure, including gas pipelines, electricity lines, and watercourses, which have slowed execution in some areas.
He stressed that delays due to administrative or technical issues would not be tolerated and instructed departments to improve coordination to ensure timely completion of all schemes. Emphasising quality, Shah said the projects must be built to durable standards to maximise long-term benefits.
Highlighting the importance of road infrastructure, he noted that improved connectivity would support trade, reduce travel time, and facilitate economic activity across agriculture, industry, and regional markets.
The meeting also reviewed proposals for the next PSDP cycle (2026–27), including new road projects aimed at further strengthening connectivity in both upper and lower Sindh.
Officials were directed to ensure strict monitoring of all ongoing schemes and efficient utilisation of development funds to deliver tangible economic and social benefits.
