Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has moved forward with plans to launch the construction of the Shahdara and Dotara dams as part of efforts to address growing water shortages in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
According to officials, preparatory steps for both projects are underway following the approval of the relevant authorities. The dams are intended to improve water storage capacity and ensure a more reliable supply for the twin cities, where demand has continued to rise due to population growth and urban expansion.

The Shahdara and Dotara dams are expected to supplement existing water sources and help reduce pressure on current reservoirs, particularly during dry seasons. CDA officials stated that the projects form part of a broader strategy to strengthen water security and support long-term urban needs.
Once completed, the dams are expected to play a key role in meeting domestic water requirements and supporting future development in the region. Further details regarding construction timelines and project costs are expected to be shared as work progresses.
