Hyderabad: The Hyderabad district administration has ordered immediate fire safety audits of government and private high-rise buildings, shopping malls, plazas, and other commercial centres across the district, setting a one-week deadline for compliance with safety recommendations.
Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon directed that joint fire safety audit teams be formed at the taluka level under the supervision of the municipal commissioner. According to an official order, the teams will inspect buildings to assess the availability and condition of essential fire safety measures.
Upon completion of the audits, reports will be shared with building owners, institutions, administrations and relevant trade bodies. Those found failing to implement the recommended safety measures within the given timeframe will face legal action.

The move follows a recent fire incident in Karachi that raised serious concerns about the state of fire safety in commercial buildings across the province. Officials said the inspections aim to protect public life and property and to prevent similar incidents in Hyderabad.
Authorities noted that many commercial buildings in the city lack adequate fire safety arrangements, emergency exits and parking facilities, often due to violations of approved building plans. The administration said strict enforcement would continue to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
