Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has identified as many as 20,000 wealthy tax evaders, according to the State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar.
The government plans to launch a crackdown against these individuals after the approval of the Second Supplementary Finance Bill 2019 by the parliament.
The minister informed that the federal agency had so far issued notices to over 3,000 high-net worth individuals.
He said that the Cabinet Committee for Disposal of Legislative Cases (CCLC) will sanction the rules for the Benami Act. A final draft of the said act will be tabled before the federal cabinet for approval.
Moreover, FBR has not made any amendments to the Second Supplementary Finance Bill 2019 with respect to late filers of income tax returns.
Finance Minister Asad Umar will reportedly take up the matter for discussion after the approval of the Second Supplementary Finance Bill 2019.
