Islamabad: The Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) has decided to seek another income tax exemption, proposing an extension for five years to June 2029.
The authority’s executive board approved a proposal to approach the government through the Ministry of Housing and Works for an extension of its income tax exemption and the incorporation of relevant provisions into applicable tax laws.
An FGEHA official said the authority operates as a statutory public sector welfare organisation on a no-profit, no-loss basis to provide affordable housing to serving and retired government employees.
According to the official, FGEHA finances its development activities through instalment receipts, service charges and transfer fees, which are used for operational and development purposes rather than commercial gains.
The government had previously granted FGEHA an income tax exemption from 2020 until June 30, 2024. The authority now seeks to extend the exemption for another five years, from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2029.
