Rawalpindi: The Punjab Communication and Works Department has awarded the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) the contract to construct three underpasses on Peshawar Road at a cost of PKR 8 billion. The project is part of the ongoing signal-free corridor initiative aimed at improving traffic flow from Ammar Chowk to Motorway Chowk.
According to officials, the underpasses will be built at Race Course Park Square, Army Graveyard Square, and Chairing Cross. Work is scheduled to begin in January 2026, with traffic police preparing diversion plans to manage vehicular movement during construction.

The project is expected to significantly reduce congestion along this busy stretch, which handles more than 250,000 vehicles daily. It forms a key segment of the larger PKR 30 billion signal-free corridor, which also includes the ongoing remodeling of Kutchery Chowk and other underpass projects along Peshawar Road.
Once completed, travel time from the district courts to Motorway Chowk is expected to decrease to 15–20 minutes, enhancing connectivity and supporting future public transport initiatives, including the operation of electric buses along the corridor.
