Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced that construction on the much-anticipated expansion of the Faizabad Interchange will begin soon, following the issuance of tenders for the project.
The announcement came during a high-level meeting chaired by CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who was briefed on the progress of ongoing, planned, and upcoming development projects across the federal capital.
Officials informed the chairman that the expansion project is now in its final preparatory phase, with tenders issued and ground-breaking expected shortly. The project aims to ease congestion at one of Islamabad’s busiest traffic junctions, improving traffic flow between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

During the meeting, it was also reported that 11 out of the 20 major traffic congestion points identified in Islamabad have already been resolved, with measures underway to address the remaining bottlenecks.
The CDA is also actively working on the beautification and rehabilitation of key highways across the city. This includes the installation of new LED and decorative lighting, repainting road infrastructure, and the placement of kerb stones to enhance the visual appeal and functionality of major routes.
Updates were also shared on the ongoing work at Shaheen Chowk and Kashmir Chowk, where the CDA chairman directed the early completion of underpass designs to initiate construction at the earliest.
Other significant updates included:
- Ongoing construction work at the National Police Academy.
- Continued upgradation of the Pakistan Secretariat.
- Tendering in progress for the installation of aesthetically designed LED lights on Margalla Road, Murree Road, Faisal Avenue, and within the Diplomatic Enclave.
- Infrastructure and beautification work inside the Diplomatic Enclave, including road upgrades, tree plantation, and lighting enhancements.

The CDA chairman also directed the establishment of a high-end shopping center in the Diplomatic Enclave and called for modern entry and exit gates that reflect Pakistan’s rich heritage. He further emphasized the need to develop walking and cycling tracks, and to expedite the upgradation of operational and sports facilities at the Gandhara Citizen Centre.
The meeting reflects the CDA’s renewed focus on urban infrastructure and city beautification as Islamabad continues to grow and modernize.
