Karachi: Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Director General Dr Saif-ur-Rehman recently announced that his department would be setting-up a total of 284 parks on its land in the city, a news source reported. He shared this information while presiding over a meeting held to discuss various administrative matters of the development authority.
The KDA DG also announced that public parks in KDA-administered areas will also be rid of all encroachments. He added that the KDA will follow the private-public partnership model to set-up these new leisure facilities.
During the past one year, the KDA has launched various targeted operations to remove encroachments from various public parks. The Supreme Court had instructed the development authority and various other departments in Karachi to retrieve amenity plots in the city from illegal occupants. Some of these actions were taken in response to public complaints regarding the miss-use of these spaces.
DG Rehman also instructed KDA Recovery director to find ways to increase revenue for the development authority, and start an austerity drive to bring KDA expenses down.
