Peshawar: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Sohail Afridi has formally launched the province-wide Ehsaas Umeed Programme, aimed at providing financial and logistical support to individuals with severe disabilities across KP. Under the initiative, 10,000 persons with significant disabilities will receive a monthly stipend of Rs5,000 each. The programme, covering January to June 2026, will cost the provincial government Rs300 million during the current fiscal year.
During the launch ceremony at the Special Education Complex in Hayatabad, the Chief Minister also handed over 23 newly procured vehicles to the Director of Social Welfare. These vehicles, including 12 mini-buses and 11 Hiace vans, will provide free transport facilities to students enrolled in the province’s 54 special education institutions. The transport fleet has been acquired at a cost of Rs377 million.

Officials said that stipends under the Ehsaas Umeed Programme will be transferred directly to beneficiaries through biometric verification to ensure transparency and accuracy. Eligible recipients will be selected using the Zakat Management Information System (ZMIS).
In addition to financial support, the provincial government will distribute 2,000 electric wheelchairs, 2,500 manual wheelchairs, 800 tricycles, 3,600 sewing machines, 617 hearing aids, 102 white canes, 44 crutches, and 96 walkers to individuals with disabilities, with a total allocation of Rs760 million.
Chief Minister Afridi emphasized that the province is financing these initiatives from its own resources. He directed authorities to ensure that assistive devices and support reach persons with disabilities in merged districts as well.
The launch of Ehsaas Umeed represents KP’s commitment to improving the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities through financial assistance, mobility support, and specialized resources.
