Lahore: The Punjab government has prepared an initial plan to build a new airport in Lahore, with the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) identifying a proposed site near Ravi City, adjacent to the M-3 Motorway.
According to media reports, the new airport would be located approximately 30 kilometres from Allama Iqbal International Airport. The project is currently at the consultation stage, with discussions underway regarding its estimated cost, financing model, and development framework.

Officials said the proposed airport is part of the government’s long-term plan to reduce pressure on Lahore’s existing air traffic system and accommodate future growth in passenger and cargo volumes. It is also expected to generate employment opportunities and attract new investment in the surrounding areas.
While the proposal reflects Punjab’s broader urban expansion strategy under RUDA, authorities clarified that the initiative is still in its early planning phase, with no final decision or construction timeline announced yet.
If approved, the new facility would serve as Lahore’s second airport, complementing Allama Iqbal International Airport and strengthening the city’s role as a major aviation and commercial hub.
