Lahore: The Punjab government has announced plans to establish the province’s first fully digital vegetable and fruit market at Kahna Kacha Mandi in Lahore, aiming to modernize trade and improve transparency.
Under the initiative, a comprehensive digital monitoring system will be implemented to record the arrival, auctioning, and sale of vegetables and fruits. Data from all trucks entering the market will be integrated with the Safe City dashboard, allowing authorities to monitor supply, demand, and pricing in real time.

Digital rate boards will be installed across the market, providing instant access to updated prices for vendors and buyers alike. Additionally, all market participants, including vendors and wholesalers, will be registered, creating a detailed database of transactions and quantities sold.
Officials said the pilot project will enable accurate tracking of market activity, improve efficiency, and provide a clear picture of the total business and financial volume at Kahna Kacha Mandi.
The digitalization of the market reflects the Punjab government’s broader efforts to modernize traditional trading systems, enhance transparency, and support data-driven decision-making in the agricultural sector.
