Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to establish a dedicated Maintenance and Repair (M&R) Directorate to ensure timely repair and rehabilitation of roads in the provincial capital.
The move aims to address longstanding concerns over delayed road maintenance, recurring patchwork, and questions about the quality of construction material that have cost civic agencies millions of rupees annually.
At a recent meeting chaired by LDA Director General Tahir Farooq, officials were briefed on different M&R models. It was decided that the new directorate will adopt modern technology, including artificial intelligence and circular vehicles, to monitor road conditions. A mobile application with geo-tagging and digital record features will also be introduced for efficient oversight.

Farooq directed that zones be assigned to LDA and TEPA to ensure responsibility and transparency in operations. The directorate will oversee the repair and rehabilitation of roads, patchwork, signage, manholes, and related infrastructure. Daily field patrols by M&R teams will be conducted, with strict timelines for response.
To ensure quality, the monitoring and evaluation process will be carried out by a third party. Farooq instructed officials to finalize the working of the M&R Directorate and make it operational at the earliest.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer LDA Israr Saeed, along with directors of engineering, TEPA, and other senior officials.
