Rawalpindi: Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Aamir Khattak has called on the National Highway Authority (NHA) to promptly approve the revised design of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) project and issue the No Objection Certificate (NOC) without delay.
The Commissioner, who also serves as the Project Director for the RRR, made these remarks during a site visit on Wednesday to review the pace of construction. He stressed the urgency of the revised design’s approval, noting that any further delays could hinder timely project completion.

While reviewing overall progress, the Commissioner directed relevant departments to accelerate construction activities and to account for the upcoming monsoon season in their planning. “A proactive strategy must be adopted to ensure that rainfall does not disrupt the pace of work,” he stated.
He instructed authorities to immediately begin land acquisition at Thallian Interchange and commence bridge construction at Chakri Interchange. Additionally, he emphasized the need to expedite slope cutting and development work, especially in areas where sub-base work has not yet started. Ongoing efforts at the railway bridge and Banth Interchange were also directed to be intensified.
During the visit, project officials briefed the Commissioner that approximately 70% of the work on the RRR had been completed. Backfilling operations on drains, rivers, and subways between Thallian and Banth Interchange were underway, and superstructure work on bridges—particularly deck launching—was being resumed.

To ensure greater accountability and efficiency, the Commissioner ordered that a component-wise daily progress report be prepared. He further directed that the project be divided into four sections—Thallian to Chakri, Chakri to Khasala, Khasala to Chak Beli, and Chak Beli to Banth—with detailed schedules to be prepared for each segment.
The RRR project is considered a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion in the region.
