Lahore: Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad on Saturday announced that the department would invite expressions of interest (EOI) for the ML-1 project on September 12, a news source reported. The minister was speaking to a press conference organised in the city.
Providing the details of the project, Rasheed stated that the Pakistan Railways will start simultaneous advertisements for the project and was hoping that the project would help revive the ministry. The government had signed the framework agreement for the ML-1 during a visit of the then Chinese prime minister in 2017. The project got the final approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on August 5.
Moreover, the invitations of tenders will mark a significant occasion for the development of the project – which is expected to cost USD 8.2 billion and restore at least 1,872 kilometres of the railway tracks across Pakistan.
