Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) on Tuesday held a meeting of the Working Group on Comprehensive Land Use Planning for both sides of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) — extending 500 meters on each side — to review proposals for sustainable urban growth and environmental improvement.
Chaired by RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza, the meeting discussed a detailed framework aimed at reducing congestion in Rawalpindi and promoting organized development along the Ring Road corridor. The plan envisions economic zones, a medical city, a tourism city, an expo centre, a dry port, industrial areas, transport terminals, wholesale markets, residential neighborhoods, an agro-forest park, and other essential land uses to meet the city’s future demands.

DG RDA highlighted that the initiative would not only ease traffic congestion in Rawalpindi and Islamabad but also help create a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment for residents. She added that the project is expected to boost the regional economy, generate employment, and improve urban facilities.
Dr Shahid Mahmud, Senior Advisor at OIC COMSTECH, termed the project a long-awaited step for the twin cities and said it would serve as a catalyst for economic expansion, especially toward Rawalpindi’s south-western areas. Dr Zahra from MMP presented the proposed land use plan and related development strategies.
Representatives from multiple departments — including the RRR Project Directorate, RCCI, EPA, PSIC, RWMC, DRTA, FWO, and other stakeholders — attended the meeting.
At the conclusion, Kinza Murtaza thanked the participants for their contributions and directed them to conduct further studies and submit detailed recommendations for the final land use plan.
