Rawalpindi: Work on Phase I of the Rawalpindi Ring Road is nearing completion, while the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has initiated a feasibility study for Phase II of the project, officials confirmed.
The RDA has engaged a joint venture of National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) and ACE Private Limited to conduct the study at a cost of Rs 52 million. The consultants will examine the proposed route from Thalian to Sangjani, which is intended to connect the Ring Road with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the G.T. Road.
RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza said the feasibility study is expected to be completed within four months, after which the Punjab government plans to launch Phase II. Construction on Phase II is expected to begin during the next fiscal year.

A senior official from the divisional administration noted that the project’s original alignment in 2021 extended 66 kilometers from Baanth to Sangjani, but it was revised in 2022 to 38 kilometers from Baanth to Thalian for Phase I. Phase II will reconnect the remaining section, creating a continuous corridor.
The official added that an economic zone is planned along the new corridor, with 500 meters of land on both sides to be acquired for relocating transport terminals and major markets away from urban areas.
Work on Phase I is over 75 percent complete and is expected to finish by March next year, ensuring that the city’s growing traffic demands are addressed while laying the groundwork for future connectivity.
