Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Thursday approved a record PKR 1.018 trillion development outlay for the fiscal year 2025-26, with a major portion dedicated to Karachi’s water, transport and infrastructure projects.
The decision came during a high-level review meeting at the CM House. Of the total budget, PKR 85.5 billion has been allocated to Karachi-specific schemes under the Local Government Department. These include major water supply, sewerage and drainage initiatives aimed at improving urban resilience and service delivery.
CM Shah directed Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah to ensure timely release of funds and regular progress reviews. He reiterated the government’s commitment to climate-resilient, inclusive and equitable development aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The chief minister said the 2025-26 development strategy prioritises climate-resilient infrastructure, restoration of flood-hit public facilities, improved agricultural productivity through climate-smart practices, strengthened irrigation systems, expanded access to safe drinking water, and stronger connectivity between cities and towns.
He added that mass transit systems, social protection initiatives and inclusive growth remain central to the province’s development vision. CM Shah also said he would personally inspect ongoing works to ensure timely completion and quality standards.
