Karachi: The Sindh government is set to launch the Lyari Transformation Project this year, aiming to overhaul the infrastructure of the historic district. The project has been allocated PKR 5 billion in the current fiscal year and will be executed in phases over the next two to three years.
The initiative will focus on key infrastructure improvements, including road construction and the replacement of water and sewage pipelines across Lyari Town. In the first phase, underground utility work will begin in 13 Union Councils, ensuring the installation of new pipelines for drinking water and sewage systems.

Lyari Town’s Municipal Commissioner, Hammad N.D. Khan, stated that water and sewage pumping stations will be solarized, and stormwater drains throughout the area will be restored. Additional work, such as improvements to smaller streets and playgrounds, will proceed if funds remain after primary tasks are completed.
The project’s PC-1 has been approved, and tendering processes are scheduled to commence shortly, with construction expected to begin by December. Officials have indicated that the Lyari Transformation Project is part of a broader plan to modernize the area’s infrastructure and enhance urban living standards.
