Karachi: Sindh Senior Minister and Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that construction of the Jam Sadiq Bridge, a key component of Karachi’s Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), is progressing ahead of schedule and will be completed earlier than planned.
The bridge has been designed with dedicated lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, while one corridor will be reserved exclusively for the BRT and the remaining lanes opened to regular traffic. Once the new structure becomes operational, the existing Jam Sadiq Bridge will be demolished and replaced with one of the same design.
During a visit to the construction site alongside Transport Secretary Asad Zamin and Yellow Line BRT Project Director Zameer Abbasi, the minister was briefed on ongoing work. He said depots for the Yellow Line are also under construction, adding that the World Bank-supported project will deliver modern and efficient transport facilities to Karachi.

Memon further shared that work on the Red Line BRT central corridor is advancing quickly, with completion targeted by December. He also revealed that double-decker and electric buses will be introduced in Karachi next month, while the distribution of free pink scooters for women—along with training and driving licences—will begin later this month under a women’s empowerment initiative.
Highlighting other Sindh government programmes, the minister pointed to the “Apni Zameen, Apna Chhat” housing scheme, solar panel distribution, and land allocation for the landless, all carried out on the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He noted that a recent World Bank delegation had expressed satisfaction with progress on the Yellow Line BRT during a meeting with the chief minister.
On Shahrah-e-Bhutto, Memon clarified that maintenance responsibilities rest with a private company under the public-private partnership model, ensuring no burden on public funds.
He concluded by praying for the health of senior PPP leader Khursheed Shah, noting that his condition is improving.
