Karachi: Sindh Minister for Energy and Planning & Development Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has announced that the provincial government is making efforts to exempt electricity consumers using up to 300 units from the proposed solar tax.
Speaking at the National Environmental Sustainability Conference & Awards Ceremony in Karachi, the minister stated that Sindh is actively engaging with the federal government to oppose the imposition of any tax that may hinder the adoption of solar energy, particularly for low-consumption households.

He reiterated Sindh’s commitment to expanding green energy, noting that the province possesses vast solar and wind energy resources. According to Shah, the provincial government is distributing solar panels among off-grid and underserved communities to promote renewable energy access.
The minister also highlighted Sindh’s achievements in environmental initiatives, including mangrove plantation drives along the coastal belt. He said the province’s efforts have resulted in earning foreign carbon credits and recognition in the Guinness World Records for planting one million mangroves in a single day.
Commenting on urban development, Shah said that key infrastructure upgrades are under way in Karachi, including improvements to sewage treatment plants. He rejected claims about the city being unliveable, stating that people continue to migrate to Karachi from across the country.
