Karachi: The Sindh government has agreed to support the construction of 196 houses for families affected by last year’s floods in Tali Das and Badswat areas of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting between the governments of Sindh and GB in Karachi, where the two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in public-private partnerships (PPPs), housing, healthcare, education, revenue generation and investment.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said his government would extend cooperation to GB in key sectors and support the construction of houses for flood-affected families. He also called for promoting private investment through the PPP model, establishing Special Economic Zones and strengthening revenue institutions.
GB Chief Minister Amjad Hussain thanked the Sindh government for its support and said the region had significant hydropower potential and was seeking to attract investment through PPPs.
The meeting also discussed strengthening GB’s healthcare and education sectors and improving revenue generation through an effective revenue authority. Officials from the Sindh Housing Authority, Sindh Public-Private Partnership Board and Sindh Revenue Board gave presentations on their respective institutions.
The two sides agreed to establish and operationalise similar institutions in GB and form joint working groups to facilitate cooperation.A follow-up meeting chaired by the two chief ministers will be held in two weeks to review progress on the agreed areas of cooperation.
