Lahore: The Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (Tepa) has confirmed that construction of the long-awaited Neela Gumbad Parking Plaza will begin next month. Preparatory work on the project is already in progress.
Originally proposed by the Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR) and later transferred to Tepa for execution, the facility will feature a four-storey underground parking structure spread across 16 kanals.
According to Tepa Chief Engineer Iqrar Hussain, the plaza’s first level will house shops to accommodate traders whose businesses are being acquired for the development. The remaining three floors will provide parking space for 374 cars and 790 motorcycles. Equipped with a modern parking management system, the project will also include fire safety measures, CCTV surveillance, and washrooms.

Officials confirmed that affected shopkeepers will receive one year of compensation for business losses. Meanwhile, similar parking plazas have been planned for Nasser Bagh and near the historic Tollinton Market to address growing parking challenges in Lahore’s busiest commercial areas.
LDA Director General Tahir Farooq has directed the agency to complete the bidding process without delay and ensure that the project is delivered on time without compromising quality.
