Lahore: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that the Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SART) system will soon be launched in Faisalabad and Gujranwala, following its successful pilot run in Lahore.
The announcement came on Tuesday after the chief minister took an experimental ride on the urban electric SART train, travelling from Raiwind Road to Muslim Town. During the test, she inspected the vehicle’s features and observed its performance amid regular traffic, drawing the attention of onlookers who gathered to see the modern transport system.

Transport Minister Bilal Akbar briefed the chief minister on the system’s technology and passenger-friendly design. Developed by Norinco International, the fully electric, trackless tram includes air-conditioned coaches and can seat up to 320 passengers across three compartments, with the option to add a fourth. A full charge allows the train to travel up to 40 kilometres.
Already operational in Turkey, China, and the UAE, the SART system is expected to ease traffic congestion and reduce environmental pollution. Maryam Nawaz said the initiative would enhance Lahore’s urban transport network and bring similar benefits to Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
