Lahore: Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Sardar Muhammad Asif Khan has stated that it is imperative that a comprehensive traffic master plan be formulated for the city, in order to prepare for the next 20 to 25 years — a news source reported.
Addressing a meeting of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), the CTO stressed the need for an efficient and modern public transport system, installation of cameras, construction of parking plazas, and the permanent removal of encroachments from the city’s roads.
CTO Khan stated that, along with the city traffic police, the Traffic Engineering & Planning Agency (TEPA), Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA), Faisalabad Municipal Cooperation (FMC), and other relevant departments were also equally responsible for streamlining vehicular traffic in the city.
He called Faisalabad one of the most congested urban centres of the country. He added that in addition to an increase in population, the migration of industrial workers has also added to the congestion on the city roads.
CTO Asif requested the traffic police and all other allied departments to collaborate with one another in order to provide viable suggestions to prepare the traffic master plan, and ensure the provision of necessary infrastructure and legal cover
