Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that work on the Lahore–Islamabad bullet train framework is progressing rapidly, as the province moves forward with several major transport initiatives aimed at improving connectivity and promoting sustainable mobility.
In her message on World Sustainable Transport Day, the chief minister announced that, for the first time in Pakistan’s history, a tram train service is being launched for the citizens of Lahore. She also revealed plans for a glass train from Rawalpindi to Murree to facilitate tourists and boost the region’s appeal as a year-round destination.

Maryam Nawaz said the Punjab government is committed to building a safe, sustainable and environment-friendly transport network. She highlighted that a new accessible and affordable transport system has already been rolled out across the province to improve mobility.
She said residents in Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Wazirabad and Faisalabad can now travel on the new electric bus service for just Rs20, while women, senior citizens and persons with disabilities can travel free of cost.
The chief minister noted that over 20,000 kilometres of roads have been constructed or repaired across Punjab to strengthen trade routes and social connectivity. She added that sustainable and green transport solutions are essential for addressing development challenges and mitigating the effects of climate change.
Maryam Nawaz also stated that the government is working swiftly to restore and improve transport infrastructure in flood-affected areas of the province.
