Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has included an Urban Train Project and the proposed Outer Ring Road in its Annual Development Programme (ADP) as part of efforts to improve public transport and urban infrastructure in Peshawar.
Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi announced the decision while launching the upgradation of 34 public parks under the Peshawar Revitalization Plan. He said implementation of the Urban Train Project would begin in the near future to provide residents with a modern, efficient and sustainable public transport system.
The chief minister said the proposed Outer Ring Road had also been incorporated into the ADP to address growing traffic demand and urban expansion. He added that the project’s feasibility study was in its final stages and construction would begin after completion of the required technical processes.
As part of the Peshawar Revitalization Plan, the provincial government has also launched the rehabilitation of all 34 public parks in the city at a cost of PKR 1 billion. The work includes landscaping, recreational facilities, public amenities and improved accessibility.
Mr Afridi said the provincial government was currently implementing development initiatives worth around PKR 200 billion under the Peshawar Revitalization Plan to improve urban infrastructure, transport connectivity and public services across the provincial capital.
Highlighting the province’s fiscal performance, he said the government collected PKR 150 billion in revenue during FY2025-26 against a target of PKR 129 billion. For the current fiscal year, it has set a revenue target of PKR 180 billion, with the aim of increasing collections to PKR 200 billion through administrative reforms and improved governance, without imposing new taxes.
