Lahore: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) has launched extended Independence Day celebrations starting from August 12 and continuing through August 14. This new initiative aims to give citizens more time to participate in festivities and connect deeply with Pakistan’s rich heritage.
For the first time, some of Lahore’s most iconic heritage landmarks—including Lahore Fort, Jahangir’s Tomb, Shalimar Bagh, Wazir Khan Baradari, Hazuri Bagh, Food Street, and all the historic gates of the Walled City—have been beautifully illuminated as part of the celebrations.
The lighting of these sites honors the spirit of freedom and pays tribute to the courage of the Pakistani nation, especially recalling the recent Marqa-e-Haq struggle for independence.

WCLA Director General Maleeha Rashid said, “We want this Independence Day to be memorable for all. Starting the festivities early allows everyone to celebrate and take pride in our heritage and patriotism.”
The extended celebrations provide an opportunity for citizens and visitors alike to experience the cultural richness of Lahore’s Walled City while commemorating Pakistan’s independence with enthusiasm and pride.
