Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday approved the allotment of 20,000 3-marla plots for workers in Jhang and Kamalia under the provincial Apna Ghar, Apni Chhat housing scheme. The decision was taken during a high-level accountability session, part of the CM’s ongoing efforts to accelerate reforms and development initiatives across the province.
The scheme also includes provisions for low-interest loans, enabling workers to construct homes on the allotted plots. CM Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to begin rapid implementation of the programme and ensure that allocations are made transparently and efficiently.
The chief minister emphasized that the scheme forms a key component of the government’s broader agenda to provide affordable housing and uplift worker communities. Officials highlighted that the scheme complements other provincial initiatives aimed at improving education, social welfare, and infrastructure, reflecting a focus on inclusive and equitable development.

During the session, Maryam Nawaz also approved measures to promote environmental sustainability, including large-scale plantation drives along railway tracks, highways, and canal banks, as well as plans to install an advanced forest fire alert system to detect fire risks 20 minutes in advance.
Other initiatives highlighted in the meeting include the success of Punjab’s pilot shrimp-farming project, with commercial exports already underway, and plans to expand cultivation to 50,000 acres following a feasibility study. The session also covered the digitalization of tourism services through the new Magnificent Punjab app and the promotion of sports events and youth engagement across the province.
CM Maryam Nawaz directed strict monitoring of all programmes, including the Apna Ghar, Apni Chhat scheme, to ensure timely progress and maximum benefit to workers, underlining the government’s commitment to transparent governance and sustainable development.
