Islamabad: The Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) has approved the draft of the Alternative Renewable Energy (ARE) Policy 2019, according to a news report. The AEDB issued this sanction in its 46th meeting, chaired by Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub, with the consensus of all its members.
Under this policy, provinces will have a larger part in decision-making with regard to major renewable energy projects. It allows the steering committee, which consists of representatives from all the provinces and co-opted members, to make decisions about the initiation and proceedings of renewable energy projects.
The AEDB prepared this policy in collaboration with all major stakeholders, including provincial government bodies and private sector entities. Ayub stated that this policy was aimed at creating sustainable opportunities for the renewable energy sector’s growth in Pakistan. It will increase the share of renewable energy sources in Pakistan’s energy mix, he added. Power Division Federal Secretary Irfan Ali also addressed the meeting and lauded the ambitious aims of this policy.
