Lahore: Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday inaugurated the Punjab Pavilion at the World Urban Forum in Baku, where Punjab’s flagship affordable housing initiative, Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar, was presented as one of the world’s top innovative projects.
During her visit to the Punjab Pavilion and exhibition stalls at the Urban Expo, officials briefed the chief minister on the progress and achievements of the housing programme, including its implementation and outreach.
Speaking at the forum, Maryam Nawaz said the initiative had gained international recognition and described it as a programme aimed at helping deserving families build homes through transparent and non-discriminatory loan distribution.

She also reviewed affordable housing models from other developing countries and took a virtual tour of the scheme through interactive digital displays. A documentary highlighting the project’s development and impact on beneficiaries was also showcased at the pavilion.
According to officials, around 600 to 700 houses are being constructed daily under the programme, while more than 100,000 houses have been completed within a year.
International delegates, foreign media representatives and visitors at the pavilion reviewed Punjab’s housing model, while the Punjab Pavilion emerged as a key attraction during the forum, showcasing the province’s urban development initiatives.
