Islamabad: The Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) on Friday directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to appoint a Public Information Officer (PIO) and make the important information relating to its office readily available, a news source reported.
The order was issued by Information Commissioner Zahid Abdullah. He stated that the federal bodies are not ‘giving primacy to proactive disclosure of information through their websites and that proactive disclosure of information is not given the serious consideration it deserves.’
The appointment of a PIO is mandatory under Section 9 of the Right to Information Act which pertains to the appointment of a designated official as information officer in the public sector and non-governmental entities.
CDA has been directed to disclose PIO’s information including their name, designation and contact details on the authority’s website and submit a compliance report to the commission within 10 working days.
