Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has said that a timeline has been committed for the completion of the Hyderabad–Sukkur motorway project, reaffirming the government’s focus on delivering key infrastructure projects within the planned framework.
Responding to points raised during the budget debate by MQM-P’s Syed Waseem Hussain, the minister said work on the new alignment of the M-9 Karachi–Hyderabad motorway had already begun. He added that the government remained committed to improving regional connectivity through sustained infrastructure development.
Ahsan Iqbal also highlighted broader development initiatives for Hyderabad, noting that the federal government had provided a grant for the establishment of a university in the city. He said Hyderabad had long lacked adequate higher education facilities, adding that efforts were now being made to address this gap through targeted federal support.

He said the Hyderabad University project, initially expected to be completed earlier, had faced delays in previous years but was now being actively pursued.
On water supply infrastructure, the minister said progress was underway on the K-IV (K-4) project, which is expected to supply water to Karachi by December 2026. He added that operational responsibility would be transferred to the provincial government upon completion.
Ahsan Iqbal stressed that coordination between federal and provincial governments was essential for the timely completion of large-scale public welfare and infrastructure projects. He said such collaboration would ensure better delivery of services and improved development outcomes across urban centres.
The minister reiterated that the government’s development agenda prioritises connectivity, education and essential urban infrastructure to support long-term economic growth.
