Islamabad: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced its decision to purify Islamabad’s environment and water, a news source reported. In the regard, EPA will set up environment cleansing and water purification units in the city.
The EPA expects to complete the project within three years and carry it out solely itself. The department’s chairing lady Farzana Altaf stated that the environment-cleansing unit would mitigate the effects of harm caused by chemicals in the atmosphere. She added that similarly the water purification unit would regulate the cleansing of water.
On the other hand, the government has not launched any new scheme for the environmental sector in the new financial year. It allocated PKR 5 billion for the six ongoing climate related projects under the Public Sector Development Project (PSDP). The government would spend PKR 4.9 billion on Tsunami Tree Project and PKR 100 million on other initiatives.
