Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday launched an initiative for daily wagers titled ‘koi bhooka na soye’ – under which free meals will be distributed to them, according to news sources.
The koi bhooka na soye initiative is launched under the larger ‘Ehsaas’ initiative for social uplift that will encompass food trucks roaming through major metropolises. In its initial phase, the project will be operationalised in twin cities and freshly-cooked meals will be distributed to daily wage workers twice a day.
As per the official Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Twitter account, the daily wagers will be the primary beneficiaries of this project who are dwelling in the major metropolises for earning livelihoods. After the establishment of ‘Panahgahs’ –which offers shelters to the homeless, this initiative is another step for the wellbeing of people living in deplorable conditions.
Prime Minister Khan addressed the launch ceremony and congratulated the Ehsaas programme and Bait-ul-Maal administration for the successful project launch. He said that the government will continue setting high standards for serving the poor society segment and monitor the food quality being served under this initiative. Khan also revealed that several philanthropists have already expressed interest in providing financial assistance to the programme.
