Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday approved the Karachi Transformation Plan in a joint meeting with the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), the local government department, and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), aiming to implement large-scale development projects in the port city.
According to an official statement, the Sindh government announced a one-time grant-in-aid of PKR 84.796 billion for 523 development schemes across Karachi. In addition, PKR 26.282 billion under the Federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) has been approved for projects related to the city.
The chief minister emphasised that the partnership with FWO aims to ensure quality, transparency, and speed in executing mega and priority projects. He said the government intends to bring Karachi’s development to international standards, focusing on infrastructure, connectivity, and urban mobility.

As part of the plan, six priority infrastructure projects worth PKR 10.72 billion have been identified for immediate execution. These include:
- Rehabilitation of the road from M-9 to Malir-15 via Jinnah Avenue and Shahrah-e-Faisal (PKR 1.025 billion)
- Construction of a right-turn underpass at Malir Halt from Printing Press to Shahrah-e-Faisal (PKR 1.5 billion)
- Construction of a flyover from Airport Road to Star Gate, Shahrah-e-Faisal (PKR 1.2 billion)
- Rehabilitation of the road from Y-Junction to Machli Chowk in Hawksbay, including sections from Masroor Base to Truck Stand (PKR 1.995 billion)
- Construction of a flyover at Sohrab Goth (PKR 5 billion)
Officials said these projects aim to address chronic traffic congestion, improve airport and intercity connectivity, and enhance logistics and industrial transport routes.

The CM also directed FWO engineers, along with officers from the local government and KMC, to finalise designs and identify utility shifts by the end of February so that construction work can commence in March.
A comprehensive portfolio of 523 development schemes has been proposed for Karachi, including road rehabilitation, traffic management improvements, flyovers, parks, and beautification of seven major roads. The main implementing agencies include KMC, Karachi Development Authority, Karachi Mega Schemes, and relevant city government offices.
Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the schemes were identified through field verification, departmental assessments, and stakeholder consultations to ensure effective planning, smooth execution, and measurable impact on the city’s infrastructure and civic environment.
