Islamabad: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved a markup subsidy and risk-sharing scheme to make affordable housing more accessible to low- and middle-income families across Pakistan. The meeting, chaired by Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, also emphasized the need for a centralized housing sector database to improve the targeting and implementation of such initiatives.

Under the newly approved PKR 72 billion subsidy scheme, eligible borrowers will be able to secure fixed-rate home loans of up to PKR 3.5 million at subsidized interest rates ranging from 5% to 8%. The move is part of the government’s broader strategy to expand homeownership opportunities and stimulate activity in the housing and construction sectors.
The ECC also directed the relevant ministries to collaborate with provincial stakeholders in developing an integrated housing data system to ensure better planning, transparency, and delivery of affordable housing solutions.
The decision reflects the government’s continued focus on promoting inclusive economic growth through improved access to housing finance, particularly for underserved communities.
