Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for submitting Sales Tax and Federal Excise Returns for the tax period of June 2025. The new deadline is now August 4, 2025, giving taxpayers additional time to file their returns.
However, the extension comes with a key condition: the due sales tax liability must be deposited within the original deadline.
According to a notification issued Thursday, the FBR has instructed Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue at Large Taxpayer Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayer Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) to implement the revised timeline across the board.
The extension has been granted under the authority of Section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990 and Section 43 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005.
The move follows a request by the Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA), which had earlier urged the tax authority to extend the e-filing deadline due to technical challenges and compliance issues.
Tax professionals and businesses have welcomed the decision, saying it provides much-needed relief and time for accurate compliance, especially as many firms are still adjusting to new digital systems and reporting requirements.
