Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday asked for a progress report from the federal government pertaining to the developmental progress made regarding the Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dam projects, a news source reported. As per the publication, the court also extended the time previously provided to prepare the report in question.
The court gave the extension for submitting the progress report while hearing a petition seeking information on the construction of the dams. Taking notice of the propaganda peddled against the dams in the country, the high court bench also directed the government to submit a report on this matter. The court then adjourned the hearing until January 31.
In a previous hearing, the LHC had asked the federal government to provide details on the land acquired and tenders floated for the construction of the dams. Furthermore, it had required the government to offer specifics on the funds allocated for the two projects.
The authorities concerned plan to construct the Diamer-Bhasha Dam on Indus River near Chilas (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan) and build the Mohmand Dam on the Swat River.
