Lahore: The Punjab government will introduce multiple initiatives including a credit guarantee scheme and a risk management programme for farmers in the upcoming budget for the (fiscal year) FY2019-20, a news source reported.
Provincial Minister for Finance Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht recently expressed his views on the matter during a meeting, which was held to review the annual development programme (ADP).
The irrigation secretary briefed the participants on the details and costs of ongoing and future uplift schemes for the agriculture sector.
He said that the provincial government will present schemes, which would cater to 45% of the agricultural labour force, in the upcoming budget session.
These proposed initiatives include the introduction of modern technology for ensuring best farming practices, a rural internship programme, provision of fresh water and fertilisers for irrigation and crop production, and the procurement of machinery (including tractors for farmers).
