Rawalpindi: Punjab Minister for Industries and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain on Saturday announced that a new industrial estate will be developed near the Rawalpindi Ring Road to meet growing demand from industrialists and attract fresh investment to the province.
During a visit to the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), the minister said that improved industrial infrastructure has encouraged both domestic and foreign investors to prioritize Punjab. He added that mobile phone manufacturing is set to begin in the province within the next six months, while plans are also underway to establish lithium battery production plants.
Shafay Hussain said new industrial estates are being developed across Punjab based on industry requirements and investor demand. “Industrial units are being set up for the first time in the Bahawalpur Industrial Estate, and construction of 10 new factories has begun in Quaid-i-Azam Business Park, Sheikhupura,” he noted.

He emphasized that industrialists play a central role in driving economic growth and that the government is resolving their issues on a priority basis. He confirmed that the Punjab chief minister has approved a major programme to upgrade industrial infrastructure across smaller industrial estates in the province.
To support the textile sector, the minister said a garment city has been established at the Quaid-i-Azam Business Park on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. He added that Punjab’s special economic zones offer extensive investment opportunities and urged industrialists to benefit from the available facilities, with the new programme set to begin next month.
The minister also warned that plots in industrial estates that remain undeveloped in violation of policy are being permanently cancelled.
He criticised previous administrations for neglecting industrial infrastructure, saying the current government has taken concrete steps to improve facilities in industrial estates. He also directed officials to upgrade the access road to the Rawat Industrial Estate.
Industrialists present at the meeting shared proposals to further accelerate the industrialisation process. RCCI President Usman Shaukat and Group Leader Sohail Altaf briefed the minister on challenges faced by the local industry.
