Quetta: A high-level government meeting was informed that the construction work is underway on various dams and water schemes in Balochistan to help address water issues, according to a news source. The meeting members also reviewed progress on the water projects being developed under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
According to Federal Secretary for Water Muhammad Ashraf, the central government is keen to complete water projects in Balochistan to help increase capacity of water reservoirs in the province. For this purpose, timely issuance of funds will be ensured, he added.
Sharing his views on the water situation in the province, Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan said that thousands of acre feet of water gets wasted in the absence of dams. Flood water can be stored and utilised in the future, he added. Speedy construction of these dams will also help increase underground water table in Balochistan, said Khan.
To ensure fast-track completion of water schemes in Blaochistan, CM Khan directed the officials concerned to form a coordination committee comprising government officials operating at provincial and federal levels.
