Peshawar: Practical steps have begun to restore train services across five districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, following federal approval aimed at reviving key rail connectivity in the province.
According to official sources, Pakistan Railways has initiated progress on the restoration project and has formally communicated the development to the provincial government.
In the first phase, work will focus on a 62-kilometre railway section connecting Peshawar, Nowshera, and Jahangira, which is considered a key segment of the revived network.
The second phase includes a 65-kilometre stretch linking Nowshera, Mardan, and Dargai. In addition, a 27-kilometre railway line between Mardan and Charsadda and an 18-kilometre section from Peshawar to Jamrud are also part of the restoration plan.

A 60-kilometre Kohat–Jand section is also scheduled for upgrading in a later phase of the project.
Sources said the process of nominating technical teams for representation in the Pakistan Railways working group is currently underway.
Officials stated that the restoration of rail services is expected to provide affordable, safe, and efficient travel options for passengers, while also supporting commercial activity and improving revenue generation for Pakistan Railways.
They added that legal formalities are being completed prior to restoration, and encroachment removal operations have already been initiated in relevant areas to ensure smooth rehabilitation of railway tracks.
