Lahore: The Punjab government has discussed potential World Bank support for its flagship housing initiative, Apni Chhat Apna Ghar, as officials explore ways to strengthen and expand the programme’s implementation.
The development was shared during a meeting chaired by Provincial Housing Minister Bilal Yasin, where the Director General of PHATA and the Project Director briefed participants on progress under the Punjab Affordable Housing Programme.
Officials said the World Bank has expressed interest in supporting the initiative, with discussions indicating possible funding of around USD 100 million. The proposed support is expected to help accelerate housing construction across the province and improve the government’s capacity to meet its housing targets.

During the meeting, Minister Bilal Yasin said interest-free loans of PKR 1.5 million per family are being provided to eligible households in different districts to support construction of homes.`
He added that the programme is delivering positive results for low-income families by improving access to affordable housing and promoting better living conditions.
The minister further stated that the government aims to construct 100,000 houses annually under the initiative, which he said would significantly improve living standards and ensure access to dignified shelter for underprivileged segments of society.
The meeting also approved restructuring measures for the programme to streamline its implementation and discussed proposals to expand its outreach to a larger number of deserving families across Punjab.
