Faisalabad: A meeting regarding the establishment of a new Greenfield International Airport in Faisalabad was held on Wednesday, marking the commencement of practical work on the project under a structured development framework.
The initiative is being carried out under an agreement between the Pakistan Airports Authority and internationally renowned aviation consultancy firm DAR Al-Handasah, in collaboration with local partner OCL-Asian.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Director General of the Pakistan Airports Authority, Engr Sameer Saeed. It was attended by President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Farooq Yousuf Sheikh, Vice Chancellor Women University Faisalabad Prof Dr Kanwal Amin, representatives of the business community, Airport Security Force, customs, police, district administration, aviation stakeholders, and media representatives.
Briefing participants, Engr Sameer Saeed said the Greenfield Airport project would serve as a major milestone for Faisalabad, the region, and the national economy. He stated that the project would require approximately 2,000 to 2,500 acres of land and has been designed to meet future aviation demands.
He added that the project also has potential for public-private partnership to ensure the development of world-class aviation facilities. According to him, the Pakistan Airports Authority aims to develop a comprehensive, future-ready airport aligned with modern international standards, for which global consultants have been engaged.
During the session, experts from DAR Al-Handasah delivered an initial presentation outlining the project framework. They said the development would be executed in nine phases, including data collection, technical review, master planning, environmental and economic assessments, design development, evaluation, and final recommendations.
The consultants emphasised that sustainability, international standards, and long-term requirements would remain central to all stages of the project.

Participants at the meeting termed the project highly significant for the industrial, commercial, and social development of Faisalabad. They noted that the new airport is expected to enhance exports, attract investment, boost tourism, generate employment opportunities, and improve global connectivity.
Experts further described the Greenfield Airport as a potential game changer for Central Punjab, stating that it would provide modern air travel facilities not only to Faisalabad but also to surrounding districts.
