Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has initiated a round of talks with the management of Mott McDonalds to formally award the contract for the development of the Rawalpindi Master Plan 2020-40, a news source reported.
The said firm had won the contract for the development of the master plan during the prequalification round, for which the RDA had invited expressions of interest in April earlier this year. Reportedly, Mott McDonalds will begin working on the city’s master plan once terms of reference for the initiative have been finalized. The firm is then expected to submit a draft for the plan within one year of the contract being awarded.
As per the information available, the RDA has allocated funds worth PKR 600 million for the development of the master plan. In addition, the initiative is anticipated to determine the city’s future needs for the next 20 years — with all the government departments and civic agencies expected to initiate projects according to the recommendations shared in the master plan.
The city’s master plan is mainly expected to focus on the water and electricity supply infrastructure, sewerage system efficiency, construction of roads and related infrastructure including parking facilities, and development of new commercial and residential areas. Environmental protection measures will also be considered when formulating the plan.
