Gilgit: The Diamer District Administration (DA) recently notified the closure of the road link situated at Babusar Top (which connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan) for six months due to snowfall, a news source reported.
As per details, the administration will keep the road link closed till May 2020. The officials added that they took the decision following the entire Babusar Pass blockade; which was triggered by recent snowfall.
To prevent inconvenience, the authorities concerned will divert the traffic to Karakoram Highway during the said time frame.
In the past, the DA had closed the Babusar Top Pass between November abd May due to the heavy snowfall and rains. This measure helps in avoiding mishaps in accordance with steps taken for safety of passengers.
Given the heavy snowfall in the areas of Babusar, Darail Tangir, Fairy Meadows, and other hilly regions, the local population has also begun to shift to plan areas – taking their cattle with them. The temperatures can drop as low as -15 degrees Celsius at night in these areas during the winters.
