Islamabad: The Balochistan government has announced its intention to commence with the renovation work planned in Gwadar, a news source reported. An official revealed that the provincial executive recently allocated a significant amount of funds for the construction and rehabilitation of roads in the city.
The official stated that the provincial government prioritised the construction of the Eastbay Expressway as it was the main artery of the Gwadar Port. He added that its construction was important for the smooth flow of vehicular movement in the port city.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Eastbay Expressway project was signed between the Gwadar Port Authority and China Communication Construction Company in September 2017. The ground-breaking of the project was held in November 2017.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) recently approved the development of the Eastbay Expressway project – a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative – at a cost PKR 17.4 billion.
Apart from initiating several development and public welfare projects in Gwadar, the Balochistan government plans to expedite the development work on water projects. The completion of these projects will resolve the issue of drinking water in the port city. Earlier this year, the federal government had released PKR 400 million for water projects in Gwadar.
