Quetta: The Balochistan government has announced a major administrative restructuring, creating new divisions, districts and tehsils across the province, including the division of Quetta into East Quetta and West Quetta districts.
According to a notification issued by the Revenue Department, the reorganisation has increased the number of divisions in Balochistan to 11 and the number of districts to 41. The changes came into effect following the notification issued on July 8.
Under the new administrative arrangement, Quetta district has been bifurcated along the railway line. East Quetta will comprise the Saddar, City and Sariab areas, while West Quetta will include Kuchlak and other adjoining localities. A new Brewery tehsil has also been created.
The government has also transferred Mastung district from Kalat division to Quetta division. The move has drawn criticism from some tribal leaders and politicians, including Nawabzada Haji Lashkari Raisani, who opposed the change, arguing that it alters the district’s historical administrative status.
As part of the restructuring, Kalat division has been replaced by two new divisions—Khuzdar and Lasbela. A new Wadh district has also been created after being separated from Khuzdar district.
The notification includes several other changes, such as the creation of new sub-divisions and tehsils, the renaming of some districts, and the realignment of administrative boundaries across multiple divisions.
The provincial government said the restructuring is aimed at improving administrative efficiency and governance by bringing public services closer to local communities.
