Lahore: Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) officials briefed Housing and Urban Development Minister Bilal Yasin on progress under the provincial government’s Apni Chhat, Mehfooz Chhat initiative, with more than 89,000 applications received through the programme’s online portal.
The briefing was given during a meeting of the PHATA Governing Body, chaired by Yasin, which reviewed the agency’s annual performance, future targets and progress on various housing initiatives. PHATA’s budget was also presented to the governing body for the first time.
Officials provided an update on the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar programme, while Yasin expressed satisfaction with PHATA’s performance. The meeting was also briefed on the provision of free plots to eligible citizens under the Apni Zameen Apna Ghar programme.
The governing body approved the expansion of the Affordable Housing Programme on PHATA-owned land. Yasin directed officials to ensure effective enforcement of PHATA rules in affordable housing schemes.
The minister also directed authorities to accelerate action against illegal housing schemes and ensure compliance with laws governing residential developments. He said approvals of housing schemes on green areas had contributed to environmental hazards.
Yasin said facilitating law-abiding developers was a government priority, while those involved in fraudulently selling files to citizens should face legal action.
He directed relevant authorities to ensure strict compliance with housing regulations, stressing that effective enforcement was necessary to provide citizens with safe and affordable housing.
