Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) will upload an updated list of five-to-six million non-filers of income tax returns on its website today (Friday), a news source reported.
FBR Member Inland Revenue Policy Hamid Atiq expressed his views on the matter during a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Finance at the Parliament House on Thursday.
He said that the federal institution has decided to provide the persons concerned online access to their assets and accounts’ details. The data compiled by the FBR has all the details with regard to the accounts and assets held by non-filers.
For accessing the information on the board’s website, the individuals concerned will have to provide their computerised national identity card (CNIC) details.
Moreover, the FBR has estimated that 10% of the population (seven to eight million people) is in a position to pay taxes. The authority plans to add two million people to the tax bracket by the end of the (fiscal year) FY2019-20.
